Shelfie by Shelfie is a fun book tag created by Beth at Bibliobeth. The idea behind the tag is to share a picture of any shelf of books you would like and answer ten questions about those particular books. Check out her newest Shelfie by Shelfie!
I also want to give Beth a personal shout-out. As a newer blogger, I have been warmly welcomed by many, many in this community, and Beth, in particular, has been a big support and a wonderful friend. Check her blog out some time. She writes fantastic reviews and has tons of fun content.
For this installment of Shelfie by Shelfie, I am only focused on the top shelf in the picture.
And here are the questions!:
1.) Is there any reason for this shelf being organised the way it is or is it purely random?
These books were placed on this shelf because they have attractive covers. Don’t judge me! Most were also unread at the time, as is most of this bookcase. Again, no judging. 😂 I don’t have books double-stacked here because the goal is solely to be pretty. All other shelves around the house are stacked up! 💕 It’s also the bookcase I see most often when I’m moving about the house.
2.) Tell us a story about one of the books on this shelf that is special to you i.e. how you got it/ a memory associated with it etc.
I found out the author of Dear Carolina (and Lies and Other Acts of Love, next to it) is a graduate of the same college I attended (also affectionately referred to as “Carolina.”) Both books are exceptionally sweet, well-written, uplifting stories, and I have, since reading these two (I’ve actually read some books on this shelf now!), spoken with the author a few times, and she is an all-around lovely person.
3.) Which book from this shelf would you ditch if you were forced to and why?
If I had to ditch one, it would be All Grown Up because I’ve read it, and it was just a “like” book and not a love. I definitely wouldn’t re-read it, so I should probably let it go.
4.) Which book from this shelf would you save in an emergency and why?
Probably I Liked My Life, which was a favorite emotional read of mine. I would read that one all over again, and I highly recommend it.
5.) Which book has been on this shelf for the longest time?
They were almost all put on the shelf around the same time (when I bought the shelf).
6.) Which book is the newest addition to this shelf?
The One-Hundred-Year Walk: An Armenian Odyssey was added most recently because something was missing from the shelf (not sure what???), and I needed to fill in the empty space with another pretty book! I read and loved this book, by the way. Excellent, important nonfiction, and part of it takes place in Syria.
7.) Which book from this shelf are you most excited to read (or re-read if this is a favourites shelf?)
The Lake House by Kate Morton is unread, which makes little sense because I love this author! But I let it sit there and look pretty and waited for a new book from her to be released, which I actually have recently received her newest, The Clockmaker’s Daughter!!!! So now I can pick this one up and read it! Bliss!
8.) If there is an object on this shelf apart from books, tell us the story behind it.
No other objects because there’s no room because of all the books…but there is something that looks funny on the shelf. I read all my hardbacks with the dust jackets removed, and then sometimes I cannot find the dust jacket, and other times, I cannot find the book! In this case, the I Liked My Life book is missing in action! Where oh where could it be?
9.) What does this shelf tell us about you as a reader?
I love buying books and enjoy having quite a list of unread ones, so I will never, ever run out! 😬 It also shows what an eclectic reader I am. Historical fiction, nonfiction, psychological suspense, and contemporary/women’s fiction are all on the same shelf!
10.) Choose other bloggers to tag or choose a free question you make up yourself.
I won’t tag anyone, but I will say, this was so much fun to do, and I plan to share again. It helped me take a good look at what’s on my shelf, which is always a good thing. Thanks, Beth! And thanks, everyone, for taking a look at my shelfie! ♥️ Happy reading!
OMG!!! I love love love your shelves!!!😊💖

Isn’t this fun? Yay, I would love to see your shelves! Well, I think I’ve seen at least one of your shelves- the kids’ one?? I have been tagged a lot- I think you have even tagged me, and I had so much fun doing this one, and I definitely want to do it again…but I also noticed it took me a lot more time than I thought it would? So I’ll have to keep that in mind with tags! 😊 Thanks for all the comments tonight- it’s made my night! 💗 xo

So fun! 😍 Tags seem to take more time, I think for me too. I’m behind as well! I feel like they are a good way for bloggers to get to know each other though and this one is so unique! I finally just finished doing some new shelves for the kids so, maybe I’ll share those. It’s fun to share!

Ha ha!! Great reasoning! All of my shelves are unread books becauee I have so many books, and so few shelves, that all of my read books are in boxes and my unread are on shelves… And staked wherever I can fit them!! 😂😂 I have to many that the deal was that I could only buy more books if I cleared room on a shelf for them….so I started hiding them in a box at the bottom of my closet now… Shhhh…. Don’t tell my man!! (thankfully, we have our own closets, so he has yet to notice!! 😂😂) do I have a problem??…. Maybe. 😉🍻💖

I love that you are hiding them, and I feel totally validated for having loads of unread books on my shelves. Truthfully, sometimes the read ones get plopped down wherever after reading. I was thinking of hiding mine, too, now, but I think I have run out of places to hide! 😂 No, I don’t think you have a problem! ♥️

Well, I’m staring at a bookshelf of approximately 150 books at rough count…. Unread. And that’s not counting my shelves upstairs, miscellaneous, and hidden… But, if you find my man YOU. KNOW. NOTHING. 😂😂😂📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 (that’s not counting the 100s of unread on my kindle and kobo, either! 😉 Those are WAY easier to hide!) 😂😂

Yes, thank goodness we can hide tons of reads on our Kindles! Your post was hidden in spam! 😬 All this talk of hiding, and it was hidden! 😂 Your secret is safe with me! 🤐

Well, I told you to hide it… Apparently the WordPress gods listen. 😉😂

Nice! My theory is books don’t go on the shelf until they’re read and I know I want to keep them. It’s a great theory… except it means I have piles of unread books on every available surface. Oh well! I don’t have room for more shelves anyway… 😉

FictionFan! 👋 I’ve missed you again! I absolutely love your theory, but it would not work for me at present. I already have piles of unread and read books on every possible surface. These were just the lucky chosen ones who made it onto a shelf. 😂
