Today I have a review of She Was the Quiet One, a new psychological suspense/thriller from St. Martin’s Press publishing on July 31, 2018.
My Thoughts:
She Was the Quiet One by Michele Campbell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
4 intriguing and scandalous stars to She Was the Quiet One! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Somehow there is always a fascinating story to be told about a boarding school, and She Was the Quiet One is set at The Odell School in New Hampshire.
Rose and Bel Enright are twins who have recently lost their parents. They are enrolling at Odell, and soon after, they develop a fierce rivalry. One sister is known for her beauty, while for the other it is her intelligence. At the same time, the students of Odell are living a life without rules or boundaries, and their collective disorderly actions are swelling towards tragedy.
Sarah Donovan is the wife of Heath, a teacher at the school. Her husband is power-hungry and sees Odell as an opportunity to climb a ladder and gain fame. Reluctantly, Heath also has his doubts about Sarah. Gossip spread as the students make a bet involving Heath, and Sarah wonders if she ever knew her husband and of what he is capable.
The scandals reach a fever pitch when someone is murdered, and of course, there is a long list of suspects.
She Was the Quiet One is not a twisty-turny book. Its flavor is in the suspense and analysis of the scandal and watching it unfurl. Michele Campbell’s taut writing compelled me to read from start to finish, and the epilogue was a juicy little twist at the end.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the complimentary copy. All opinions are my own. She Was the Quiet One will be published on July 31, 2018.

Synopsis:
When twin sisters Rose and Bel Enright enroll in The Odell School, a prestigious New Hampshire boarding school, it seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. But the sisters could not be more different. The school brings out a rivalry between them that few ever knew existed. And the school itself has a dark underbelly: of privileged kids running unchecked and uninhibited; of rituals and traditions that are more sinister than they seem; of wealth and entitlement that can only lead to disaster.
For Sarah Donovan, wife of an ambitious teacher who is determined to rise through the ranks, Odell also seems like the best thing that could happen to their small family. But how well does she really know her husband? What lengths will he go to to achieve his goals? And when one dark night ends in murder, who is guilty, who knows the truth, and who has been in on it all along? SHE WAS THE QUIET ONE. Because murderers are almost never who you expect.
I like books with a boarding school setting. This one sounds brilliant. Glad you enjoyed it even if it wasn’t twisty. Great review.

Thank you, FF! There you are with your lovely comments! 😊 We have had a drought here and high temps, so everything is a little dry even with my watering. I’m hoping that means a cooler fall? I will try to get a good pic outside! I’ve had just a couple!

I like that it’s not a crazy book of twists and turns. Sometimes it’s nice to read something that is just straight forward!

Great review! 💗 I enjoyed this one better than I did her 1st book since I had the killer in that one figured out pretty quickly, but it was still a good read! And the 1st part was set at a boarding school lol. She must like them 😊 This one was much better with the atmosphere and guessing. I kept switching back and forth to who was alive and whodunit till almost the end and the prologue I never saw coming!

Thanks, Stephanie! I think I should go back and read the first one since you liked it overall. Too funny about the boarding school! I was second guessing myself throughout on this one, too. I loved that last twist also! ♥️
