TGIF, everyone! First Line Fridays is a fun way to share from books on your TBR.
Today my first line is from a book I am currently reading with some blogger buddies:
I will start with the tree. Because everything begins, and ends, with the tree. The tree is the tallest one. It was planted way before the others. I’m not sure how old it is, exactly. Perhaps three of four hundred years old. It is ancient and powerful. It has weathered terrible storms, braced against unbridled winds. It is not afraid.
I am a fan of de Rosnay’s Sarah’s Key. Set in the present, the Rain Watcher has a completely different feel, and I love it all the same. The descriptions are luscious and literary. I am looking forward to reading more, and my review will post on publication day, October 30, 2018.
Synopsis from Goodreads:
The first new novel in four years from the beloved superstar author of Sarah’s Key, a heartbreaking and uplifting story of family secrets and devastating disaster, in the tradition of THE NEST.
The Rain Watcher is a powerful family drama set in Paris as the Malegarde family gathers to celebrate the father’s 70th birthday. Their hidden fears and secrets are slowly unraveled as the City of Light undergoes a stunning natural disaster. Seen through the eyes of charismatic photographer Linden Malegarde, the youngest son, all members of the family will have to fight to keep their unity against tragic circumstances.
In this profound and intense novel of love and redemption, De Rosnay demonstrates all of her writer’s skills both as an incredible storyteller but also as a soul seeker.
Please share with me the first line(s) of the book you are currently reading! I would love to read it! Have you read The Rain Watcher, or do you plan to? Happy Friday reading! ~ Jenni THR
Ooo, sounds good! I think this would be perfect for my mum. She likes these kinda stories ❤

Happy Friday! I can not wait to read that one Jen!!💕💕
My first lines come from the book It Started With Christmas byJenny Hale…..
“I want to spend Christmas at the cabin.” Nana’s voice came from the dark stairway, startling Holly McAdams and making her jump as she walked in the front door, the warmth of the little house a stark contrast to the icy cold outside.
Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!😊🎃💕

I also loved Sarah’s Key so I am anxious for this one. I do have it yay!
“I expected to feel free, unburdened, but when the curtains close around Philip Rochester’s satin lined coffin, all I feel is indigestion.” This is from The Exes’ Revenge by Jo Jakeman.

Lovely picture and I love the cover. I plan to read this one.
I am currently reading Every Breath by Nicholas Sparks, a favorite author of mine.
The first lines are : There are stories that rise from mysterious, unknown places, and others that are discovered, a gift from someone else. This story is one of the latter. On a cool and blustery day in the late spring of 2016, I drove to Sunset Beach, NC,…
happy Weekend! 🌺💗📚

Your self-control was really amazing! I’m going to be taking after you, though, because I’ve been on a NG diet! You’d be proud of me! I will definitely keep you posted! ♥️ xo

It was hard though! Now I only have 2 ARCS for Nov and 2 for Dec, so I had so much self control not requesting books that now I’m regretting it in a way, lol. I guess the bright side is I can early read some of my Jan and Feb books or just read whatever I want the rest of the year without any pressure for publication dates, etc. Yippee! I’m proud of you! I’ve been hopping on and off, but I haven’t seen anything that I want to request….hmmm…we might have to talk so you can tell me what you’re reading in Jan-April because I have a several but seriously nothing is catching my eye. Keep me posted!! ❤

I will! I have a few…I would love to know what’s on your radar! It may just be that the books I want to read really won’t come out until summer when all my fave authors start releasing their books…then it’s crazy reading time lol. 💞

I’m not sure about yours – awfully short sentences – but I like it enough to read on for a bit. Hope you enjoy(ed) it!
Here’s mine:
My sainted mother taught me the seven acts of corporeal mercy: to feed the hungry; refresh the thirsty; clothe the naked; shelter the traveller; comfort the sick; visit those imprisoned; and bury the dead. Most of these we undertook together, while she lived. Then Papa and I buried her, so that was another one checked off the list.
Great, isn’t it? It’s from The Corset by Laura Purcell. 🎃

I have this book to read. It sounds so descriptive and will make the reader feel like they are there. I am looking forward to getting to it eventually.
So, I am reading this Sunday night, but will give you the first line of the book I am listening to now.
It is A Merciful Secret by Kendra Elliott. “Mercy though it was a deer. But it was a girl who burst out of the brush along the dark road and into the headlight beams of her SUV”

Oh my goodness, eek, what a start to a book, Carla! I am looking forward to your thoughts on that one! You are absolutely right, The Rain Watcher has been really descriptive thus far. I am enjoying imagining the surroundings.

I also have this book to read, but I haven’t read Sarah’s Key! Eventually, I’ll get around to both. It’s good to hear that you are appreciating this one, even with the earlier work to compare to.
