20181122_155148.jpgHappy Monday!  Today I have a review of I Might Regret This by Abbi Jacobson now available from Grand Central! Please make sure to read all the way to the bottom for two chances to win a finished copy of this witty book!

My Thoughts:

I’m a fan of the show Broad City. Abbi and Ilana make me laugh, and while they are a yin and yang match, Abbi has plenty of story to tell on her own.

Abbi decides to take a solo drive cross-country and write – and draw- all about it. The essays also include her pencil sketches, which I love. Enjoying her alone time (I can relate to that!), she sets off on an adventure that many of her family and friends questioned.

She starts her journey in Asheville, North Carolina, which I happen to think is a pretty perfect place to start. Abbi rambles. We who watch the show know that, and she rambles in this book in a stream-of-consciousness style. I felt like she was talking just to me, and of course every other sentence was full of her signature obsessive wit. I was laughing and smiling throughout.

There’s also sincerity and emotion when Abbi pens letters to her mom and Ilana. She writes from her heart and with an honesty in every essay that had me love and respect her all the more. Abbi offers insight into her own way of thinking in I Might Regret This, and she also offers glimpses of insight into the ways of the world. I found her essays smart, funny, and charming, which was just what I was hoping for out of this book!

Even if you aren’t a Broad City fan, I think there’s much to relate to with Abbi’s adventure and wisdom.

Thanks to the lovely people at Grand Central for the invitation to read and review I Might Regret This. All opinions are my own.

Synopsis:

From the co-creator and co-star of the hit series Broad City, a hilarious and poignant collection about love, loss, work, comedy, and figuring out who you really are when you thought you already knew.

When Abbi Jacobson announced to friends and acquaintances that she planned to drive across the country alone, she was met with lots of questions and opinions: Why wasn’t she going with friends? Wouldn’t it be incredibly lonely? The North route is better! Was it safe for a woman? The Southern route is the way to go! You should bring mace! And a common one… why? But Abbi had always found comfort in solitude, and needed space to step back and hit the reset button. As she spent time in each city and town on her way to Los Angeles, she mulled over the big questions– What do I really want? What is the worst possible scenario in which I could run into my ex? How has the decision to wear my shirts tucked in been pivotal in my adulthood? In this collection of anecdotes, observations and reflections–all told in the sharp, wildly funny, and relatable voice that has endeared Abbi to critics and fans alike–readers will feel like they’re in the passenger seat on a fun and, ultimately, inspiring journey. With some original illustrations by the author.
