Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a meme hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings to spotlight upcoming releases we are excited about that we have yet to read.
The book I’m waiting on this week is…
I’ve loved all of Sally Hepworth’s books I’ve read so far. She’s written emotional, tissue reads, along with dramatic suspense, and this seems to fall in the latter. She does everything exceptionally well, and I cannot wait to read it very soon!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
A twisty, compelling novel about one woman’s complicated relationship with her mother-in-law that ends in murder…
From the moment Lucy met her husband’s mother, Diana, she was kept at arm’s length. Diana was exquisitely polite, and properly friendly, but Lucy knew that she was not what Diana envisioned. But who could fault Diana? She was a pillar of the community, an advocate for social justice who helped female refugees assimilate to their new country. Diana was happily married to Tom, and lived in wedded bliss for decades. Lucy wanted so much to please her new mother-in-law.
That was five years ago.
Now, Diana has been found dead, a suicide note near her body. Diana claims that she no longer wanted to live because of a battle with cancer.
But the autopsy finds no cancer.
The autopsy does find traces of poison and suffocation.
Who could possibly want Diana dead?
Why was her will changed at the eleventh hour to disinherit both of her adult children and their spouses? With Lucy’s secrets getting deeper and her relationship with her mother-in-law growing more complex as the pages turn, this new novel from Sally Hepworth is sure to add to her growing legion of fans.
I’ll be reading this one with some blogger buddies, and please make sure to check out Mack’s Can’t Wait Wednesday post. Have you read The Mother-in-Law, or is it on your shelf? Please share your link to Can’t Wait/Waiting on Wednesdays/WWW, so I can check yours out! Happy Reading! ~ Jennifer THR

I can’t wait to read this one either! I’m going to try and squeeze it in this month, but I’m not sure that I can since I decided to start Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch the other day, which is huuge and plan on reading Heart’s still before the end of the month…hopefully! Still, I know it will be so good whenever I get to it!

I’m going to read Heart’s this summer! I need you to hold me to it! I also need to read The Goldfinch some day. Can’t wait for your thoughts on it. I hope we both love The Mother-in-Law! Love love love Sally Hepworth! ♥️

I don’t think I’ll be able to read Heart’s this month but I’ll try! I ended up reading A Very Coco Christmas this weekend and have been reading all of them since, lol. I’m on the last big one now (just started it a few minutes ago) and then have the other Christmas short story to read. At this rate, it will take me all month to read The Goldfinch. It’s good but not as fun as Coco, lol. I’m sure we will love The Mother-in-Law! Sally Hepworth is so, so good but underrated in my opinion.

The earlier ones have a different feel, Suzanne. They are more emotional reads, and I adore them, too. I hope one day she’ll go back to those, but I will say her domestic suspense still has a strong emotional element. I hope we both love this one!

I’m sure I’ve come across Sally Hepworth before, but can’t put my finger on which book at the moment. This one sounds intriguing – it somehow reminds me of the kind of plot another writer I’ve enjoyed in the past, Gillian White, might have come up with…

Now I need to check out Gillian White! I’m not sure I’ve read anything by her. Do you have any recommendations for me, FF? 😊

I loved her book Copycat especially, though some of her others are good too. It’s about two women, neighbours and total opposites of each other. We learn right at the beginning that one has murdered the other, but we don’t know which is the murderer and which the victim, and she keeps us guessing all the way through. It’s brilliantly done. 😀
