TGIF, everyone! First Line Fridays is a fun way to share from books on your TBR.
Today my first line is from a book I am currently reading:
Alaskan Interior, June
The farmer moved into the woods, looking for his pigs.
“Jilly! Jilly!” he called. He’d named the sow after his first wife who’d grown about as fat as the woolly Hungarian blonde, if not quite as hairy. But unlike his exwife, Jilly, usually came when called, which meant it must be time.
Well, that’s an intriguing start! You can tell from the synopsis that this is not a book about farming, so it’s clear to me from that the start that something imminent is about to happen. I’m so intrigued with this one and cannot wait to start it. I’m loving these thriller subgenres! So fun!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
In this frighteningly believable thriller from New York Times bestselling author Tosca Lee, an extinct disease re-emerges from the melting Alaskan permafrost to cause madness in its victims. For recent apocalyptic cult escapee Wynter Roth, it’s the end she’d always been told was coming.
When Wynter Roth is turned out of New Earth, a self-contained doomsday cult on the American prairie, she emerges into a world poised on the brink of madness as a mysterious outbreak of rapid early onset dementia spreads across the nation.
As Wynter struggles to start over in a world she’s been taught to regard as evil, she finds herself face-to-face with the apocalypse she’s feared all her life—until the night her sister shows up at her doorstep with a set of medical samples. That night, Wynter learns there’s something far more sinister at play and that these samples are key to understanding the disease.
Now, as the power grid fails and the nation descends into chaos, Wynter must find a way to get the samples to a lab in Colorado. Uncertain who to trust, she takes up with former military man Chase Miller, who has his own reasons for wanting to get close to the samples in her possession, and to Wynter herself.
Filled with action, conspiracy, romance, and questions of whom—and what—to believe, THE LINE BETWEEN is a high-octane story of survival and love in a world on the brink of madness.
Please share with me the first line(s) of the book you are currently reading! I would love to read it! Have you read The Line Between, or do you plan to? Happy Friday reading! ~ Jenni THR
Well, that’s actually pretty funny despite what I think is yet to come in that story!
My first line:

I am currently reading an Anonymous Girl by Hendricks and Pekkanen.

Today on my blog I’m sharing the first few lines of Who I Am with You by Robin Lee Hatcher. It’s such a good book. I’m just beginning chapter 25, so I will share the first line from there.
“Feeling elated by his day down in the valley, meeting with a financial advisor and a Realtor, Ridley rapped on Jessica’s back door.”
Hope you have a great weekend filled with relaxing reading time. 😀❤📚

Happy Friday!😉
My first lines come from Restaurant Weeks are Murder by Libby Klein…….
“I don’t care how good Dr. Oz says it is, I’m not eating vegan cheese.” Aunt Ginny took the last stuffed pheasant off the Fraser fir, wrapped it in tissue paper, and placed it in an old Woolworth’s hat box to store until next Christmas.
Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!💕

Hi! Happy Friday.
I shared the first couple of lines from one of my recent reads, The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi, on my blog. I loved this book so much and to celebrate its coming release (January 15) I will be sharing the first couple of lines from its prologue chapter here.
The matriarch of House Kore was running late for a dinner. In the normal course of things, she did not care for punctuality. Punctuality, with its unseemly whiff of eagerness was for peasants. And she was neither a peasant nor eager to endure a meal with the mongrel heir of House Nyx.
Hope you enjoy that. Happy weekend!

Ooh that’s quite the beginning, and I love a good apocalyptic or dystopian tale. This one sounds like it could be a nailbiter!

I never would have guessed from the cover or the first lines that it was a post apocalyptic story. Based on that synopsis, it sounds like it’s going to be a wild ride.

I’m so excited about this one, Suzanne. It’s a bit of a different read for me.

Definitely an intriguing premise! But I agree with Suzanne (thebookishlibra), the cover is really misleading. In fact, the cover is very much like a book that I DNF’d last year or the year before, which initially turned me off to this one. I’m going to go read more about it on GR…

I think it’s billed a touch more as a thriller and with the Alaska setting, I think the cover may fit? But I’m not as frequent a reader of dystopian and post apocalyptic stories, so I could definitely be wrong?

It may just be that it looks like that thriller I ditched. 😂

Haha! I love that start! It’s so mean! I do hope the rest of the book lives up to it!
Here’s mine:
It was not until several weeks after he had decided to murder his wife that Dr Bickleigh took any active steps in the matter. Murder is a serious business. The slightest slip may be disastrous. Dr Bickleigh had no intention of risking disaster.
It’s yet another vintage crime – Malice Aforethought by Francis Iles – so far, so good… 😀

Oh, wow, as always, I am definitely intrigued by yours and what Dr. Bickleigh does to his wife. Enjoy, FF!

That line definitely grabbed me too! I think the cover is what originally pulled me in on this one. Great share, Jen!
Is that a Christmas cactus in the pic? Ours just bloomed! 😁💗

This is one exciting read, M! I am loving it! Yes! I have two and both bloomed right around Christmas, and now they are done. My other one has kind of a tropical look. I’ll try to use a pic with it soon! ♥️
