Happy Tuesday and happy publication day to The Conspiracy! Thank you to Harlequin Books for my copy.
Please say hello to Charles Dickens, one of the precious cats I adopted recently. You should be seeing more of him and his literary siblings, Harper Lee and Hemingway. ♥️ (So far, Dickens has been the most cooperative during photo sessions! 😂)
My Thoughts:
The Conspiracy is first in a new romantic suspense series from Kat Martin.
Harper Winston’s brother, Michael, is missing. He has been sailing the Caribbean and no longer responds to texts. Harper sends the Coast Guard on a search to no avail.
Chase Garrett was once Michael’s best friend, but they had a major falling out. Harper is desperate to find her brother, and Chase is her last resort. Chase owns Maximum Security, and he knows things about Harper’s father she doesn’t know.
Harper’s father is involved in some bad stuff, heavily criminal stuff, and what likely put Michael in danger. Chase would rather not get involved, but he still cares about his missing friend.
Chase’s mission to help save Michael pulls him closer to Harper, as one might expect. Harper and Michael are strong characters. Chase is the protective type, while Harper is a devoted and loyal sister.
Overall, I found the storyline tense and dramatic, the pacing was strong, along with a backdrop of crime and a touch romantic elements.
Thanks to Harlequin for the complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Synopsis:
Harper Winston’s brother has disappeared. Pursuing his dream of sailing the Caribbean, Michael hasn’t responded to texts or emails in days. When even the Coast Guard can’t find him, Harper is forced to take desperate measures. Which means going to Chase Garrett, once her brother’s best friend, now the only man she can trust…or so she hopes.
As the successful owner of Maximum Security, Chase has learned to trust his gut. He knows Harper’s father is mixed up in a deadly business, and suspects there’s more to Michael’s disappearance than meets the eye. Getting involved again with the Winstons goes against everything he stands for, yet old loyalties die hard. As the case draws him closer to Harper and deeper into the Winstons’ snarled crime family, he is forced to put everything on the line to keep Harper safe…and both of them alive.
Have you read The Conspiracy or any other romantic suspense books lately? Happy Reading! ~ Jennifer THR

Thanks, favorite M! We had a very sad time over the holidays with losing the last of my beloved fur babies…went to the Humane Society just to look and came home with three! Dickens is sooooo sweet, and I’ll definitely be sharing more pics of him and his siblings! ♥️

Thank you, Paula. ♥️ We had a somber holiday. I lost my Coley cat on Christmas Day, after losing Bailey, her littermate in May. When I was ready, we went to the Humane Society, just to look, and came home with three – two kittens (male and female littermates) and a 4-year-old male with skin issues I was afraid no one would adopt, so now he’s ours. Woo, do I have my hands full! But it’s a great kind of busy. Dickens is sooooo sweet and a total love, and he’s bonded well with both his sister and the 4 yo. I think he’s going to grow into a super sweet cat when he calms down some. He’s a ball of energy! Harper Lee, my girl, is the loving one right now. She wants me to hold her all the time…well, when she’s not busy playing! I’m having so much fun with them. Love to you, my friend. 💗

I’m so sorry to hear the sad news about Coley (and Bailey earlier in the year). Why do these horrible things always seem to happen around Christmas? What with the storm and flooding, you certainly went through the mill last year. Anyhow, you did the best thing you could possibly do under the circumstances: you went forth and acquired not one but three puss cats in need of a loving home. Good for you, Jennifer. I wish I could give them a fuss in the flesh (fur?), but since I’m unable to nip over to your place, please give them lots of cuddles on my behalf. The names are terrific, by the way! Love to you, too, from your chilly friend in snowy Wales. 💕

Oh, I almost forgot to say: Olive will be arriving on the 20th February! 🐶 xx

Oh, snowy Wales sounds so gorgeous, Paula. Even more lovely than typical Wales, which is already stunning. Thank you for all your kind words and support. It’s somewhat thanks to Bailey that this blog is here. I started it when he had gotten very sick as it served as a great way to keep my mind busy, and then it was a source of comfort when he passed away.
In happy thoughts, we put two bird feeders on the back deck, and the cats are having so much fun watching the winter birds and squirrels feeding! I’m so happy to have three wildlife watchers on my hands (watching from the safety of our windowed-in screen porch!). Soon the hummers will be back, and I can’t wait for that!
I’m SO happy to hear about Olive- that is right around the corner! We will blink and she will be yours! Back in September, February seemed so far off, and I’m sure it felt even further for you. YAY, Olive! ♥️
Xoxo 🦋 🐶 🐱 ♥️

I’m afraid our snow has turned to slush – so not so pretty today! 🤣
So your blog is a sort of memorial to Bailey. I bet he’s watching you from the happy cat hunting ground feeling extremely pleased with himself.
I’m delighted the bird feeders are providing so much entertainment for your young feline family. I wonder when the first hummer will make an appearance? That will have them chattering on the porch!
Poor Olive has a long journey ahead of her but we’ll make it all worthwhile when she arrives. 🤗🐈🐕🌺

Oh, yes, Olive will be a loved and celebrated pooch, and she already has friends across the big pond!
I LOVE that about my blog being a memorial to Bailey. Thank you for saying that because I hadn’t put it together quite that way Paula. I still have a draft of an incomplete post about him with an Edna St. Vincent Millay quote (paraphrasing a bit “And so I stand stricken remembering him!). I haven’t been able to post it for a host of reasons, but when you look up soulmate animal, that was my Bailey.
I’m sorry about the slush! Be careful if you have to go out! Happy weekend, my dear friend! ♥️🌺

I would love to read your post about Bailey but quite understand if you don’t wish to share. I lost my beloved Nancy cat 12 months ago today (would you believe?). She was 18 years old and had been my constant companion from kittenhood. I still miss her very much, so understand completely how you feel.
I hope you have a really super weekend with the puss cats. Be sure to let me know when you spot your first hummer! 🤗💝

Aw, I’m sorry about your Nancy, Paula. Yes, you definitely do get it. ♥️ Maybe one day I will get the post together, and it will be a tribute to Bailey and Coley while also welcoming our new family members?
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend, too, and I’ll definitely let you know about the hummers!

That is one super gorgeous kitten!! Does he meow in really long sentences? It doesn’t surprise me at all that Hemingway is temperamental and Harper Lee never liked the spotlight much… 😉

You are too kind, FF! I think he’s pretty handsome too! Hmm….He can do some pretty long strings of baby meows (I’m going to miss those kitten meows when they grow up!) when he hears the can of food opening! Harper Lee has much less to say, but she’s stunning! Can’t wait for you to see her. Hemingway can be temperamental, but he’s an adult, and he’s jaded about life. 😂 We are hoping to show him all the happy sides of life!

It really is a shame that Harper did not cooperate for this one, given that the main character is named after her! This one sounds interesting, I have not heard of this book, I don’t think?💜

So true! I tried to get the pic with her, but she wasn’t hamming it up as much as Dickens, and she is always on the move! I’m going to get her though. She’s too cute NOT to photograph with a book! ♥️ I think you’d enjoy this book and series.

Oh my goodness. You named your kitties after classic authors. I…I love that so much. And Dickens is so photogenic! ❤️ I didn’t know “romantic suspense” was a thing, but this sounds like such a good one!

Thanks, Kathy! I lost two of my longtime cat companions (16 years old- one almost made it to 17) in 2018, and I was incredibly sad. These three have lifted my spirits and kept me busy, and Dickens was the first name I thought of. The rest came to me some thought. This was a great romantic suspense- a nice blend of the two! ♥️
