Happy Monday! Today I have a review of Jessica Strawser’s newest book, Forget You Know Me, publishing by St. Martin’s Press tomorrow/February 5, 2019!
My Thoughts:
Molly and Liza are the best of friends. Molly eventually marries Daniel, and the two remain close. Things change when Liza moves away, though. It affects her friendship with Molly and also Molly’s marriage. But why?
Daniel is away on business, and the friends plan a video call to catch up. Molly leaves the room briefly, and Liza sees something that has her driving all night to Molly’s house.
When she arrives, Molly is cold, and Liza is confused.
Did Liza really see what she was so concerned about? Is their friendship over?
The premise of friends growing apart after marriage was relatable and well-rendered. The characters are cast in three-dimension; this truly is a character-driven story. It’s also the story of marriages that grow apart, which again, is another relatable topic. How do you stop, can you stop, that inertia when you finally realize the distance is growing?
If you’ve been knee-deep in either of these dynamics on a personal level, this book will resonate. I enjoyed watching Liza and Molly process their situations and was enamored with the insightful way this story was told. Well-done, Jessica Strawser!
Thanks to the publisher for the complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Synopsis:
“Forget You Know Me is that book you can’t put down, and can’t stop thinking about when you are finished.” —Sally Hepworth, bestselling author of The Family Next Door
When a video call between friends captures a shocking incident no one was supposed to see, the secrets it exposes threaten to change their lives forever.
Molly and Liza have always been enviably close. Even after Molly married Daniel, the couple considered Liza an honorary family member. But after Liza moved away, things grew more strained than anyone wanted to admit—in the friendship and the marriage.
When Daniel goes away on business, Molly and Liza plan to reconnect with a nice long video chat after the kids are in bed. But then Molly leaves the room to check on a crying child.
What Liza sees next will change everything.
Only one thing is certain: Molly needs her. Liza drives all night to be at Molly’s side—but when she arrives, the reception is icy, leaving Liza baffled and hurt. She knows there’s no denying what she saw.
Or is there?
In disbelief that their friendship could really be over, Liza is unaware she’s about to have a near miss of her own.
And Molly, refusing to deal with what’s happened, won’t turn to Daniel, either.
But none of them can go on pretending. Not after this.
Jessica Strawser’s Forget You Know Me is a “twisty, emotionally complex, powder keg of a tale” (bestselling author Emily Carpenter) about the wounds of people who’ve grown apart. Best, friends, separated by miles. Spouses, hardened by neglect. A mother, isolated by pain.
One moment will change things for them all.

I have this one on my TBR, but I always feel like her books are miscategorized as thrillers and then I feel some disappointment.

That’s so true, Angela. They are not thrillers. I went into this one thinking it was an emotional domestic fiction (based on her last one), and it worked beautifully for me. ♥️

I haven’t been in that spot of the marriage growing apart, but the piece about friendships growing apart—I’ve been there! My tendency is to bring it up, but actually that sometimes makes it worse? It was interesting here that they tried not to bring it up. Wonderful review!!! I loved discussing this with you!!!

lol love the little IG notification popping at the top of your iPad. 🙂 But also, this seems (in some ways) like it would be a relatable novel due complexities surrounding Molly and Liza’s friendships. I definitely want to know the event that triggers this whole story to pick up speed!

😂 I can’t stop laughing at this! I’m so tired when I do these blog posts, and the thumbnails I edit are tiny. I mostly use my phone and ipad. I totally did not see that! I was so focused on the rest of the pic, I forgot to make sure there were no stray notifications! I think you get a prize for finding it, LP! ♥️ This is a terrific read. I really enjoyed the complexity in the relationships.

I think you would, Steph! Just remember, it’s not a thriller because some have been disappointed thinking so. There is intrigue and tension, but it’s about these relationships. I loved it!
