Today I have a review of Scrapbook of an Unfound Songstress by Vicky Nolan. I want to thank Vicky for sending me her book from across the pond. It’s beautiful, and I’m grateful to have a copy. Also, a thank you to Janel at Keeper of Pages for her lovely review that inspired me to read the book.
My Thoughts:
Vicky Nolan is 15 years old and dreaming of being a pop star when she is discovered. She is sent by her record label to Copenhagen to make music, and not longer after she returns home, the High Court delivers a writ.
There is a falling out between Vicky and her management, and her manager is now suing her. Vicky is still in school as her dreams quickly become her worst nightmare.
Scrapbook of an Unfound Songstress is a slim book and a quick and inspiring read. The format is fun and intriguing and really does remind me of a scrapbook with its pictures and anecdotes.
Vicky shares openly about her family, the inner workings of the trial, and especially the music. Throughout I listened to the music on Vicky’s YouTube channel. Talk about inspiring! What a voice!
My heart was in my throat for Vicky while I read of her dreams being dashed, especially at the same time as I was listening to her captivating voice. With all she shared, the final note she gives the reader is one of hope. Vicky bounces back from the harsh reality of what happened to her, and I can’t help but have a huge amount of hope that her turn at performing will come around again.
Overall, Scrapbook of an Unfound Songstress is an emotional and positive read.
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Synopsis:
You’re a 15-year-old schoolgirl who has big dreams of becoming a pop star, and then one day you get your lucky break. Polydor records sends you to Copenhagen to make pop music – to make you a recording artist. You get back home and your future is looking brighter than ever – until the High Court writ hits the door mat – you’ve fallen out with your management and they have decided to sue. No, this isn’t a dream, this is now Vicky Nolan’s reality and fast becoming a nightmare, and all while still at school at the sweet age of sixteen.
Read about the trial, the family, Hollywood, London town, the glamour, the dog (eh?) and most importantly, the music. Curiouser and curiouser?
We always talk about ‘making it’ and fulfilling your dreams. The question is, what if you don’t? What happens next? Ultimately, this book speaks about life and family; its hopes and disappointments, its ups and downs. Scrapbook of an Unfound Songstress is in some way a story that speaks to us all, because in the end, the best stories are always true.
“I’m living my life as consequence of yesterday.
And all of my choices compliment my life today.
There may have been times I could have gone and lost my way,
I could have, I would have, I should have, I don’t care – I’m here now.”See the stories and hear the music

It’s such a shame, LP. The problems with her manager kept her from getting her name out there. I just hope she has another chance. It was definitely a great experience!

She does indeed have a lovely voice! Hope she gets a second chance at recording sometime. Reminded me of when George Michael fell out with Sony and didn’t record anything for several years – these record companies seem to think they own the artists…

Aw, I’m glad you listened, FF. I hope she gets another chance too. I remember that- so many years of lost talent when that happened.
