My Thoughts on Why Kill the Innocent and Who Slays the Wicked:

My dear friend, Jonetta, at Blue Mood Cafe , is an avid fan of the Sebastian St. Cyr series, and I’ve wanted to read the books ever since I first read her reviews. She also insisted that I read them in order, and I didn’t quite get all 14 read, but I did read the first, as well as Why Kill the Innocent and Who Slays the Wicked. They were easy to binge-read, completely absorbing, and I promise, Jonetta, I will read them all! 

Briefly, Why Kill the Innocent involves a mystery for Sebastian to undertake at the royal court in London 1814. A young musician named Jane Ambrose is murdered, and she has ties to Princess Charlotte, the next in line for the throne. This frightens everyone and causes concern and intrigue. Jane’s world is full of secrets, and once Sebastian and Hero uncover some of the mystery, more and more deceit rises to the surface. I loved the working relationship between Sebastian and his wife, Hero- how well they worked together. I was completely absorbed in this story and breezed right through it. 

Moving on to Who Slays the Wicked, Sebastian is tasked with finding the real killer when his cousin is accused of murder. 

Sebastian’s cousin, Stephanie, married this handsome but unsettling nobleman against Sebastian’s wishes. Sebastian could never prove Ashworth did anything untoward, but he had strong suspicions. Stephanie was abandoned by Ashworth while pregnant, and evidence is found at the scene of his murder suggesting the killer is a woman. 

Oh, I was completely lost in Who Slays the Wicked. This story hitting so close to home for Sebastian just connected it to me all the more. Stephanie is extremely sympathetic here and I wanted the real killer to be found. 

I don’t really want to say too much more, but I’ll close with his. Sebastian has a brilliant analytical mind, and these books get you right inside. They make you think the way he does, and it’s so engrossing. The writing is completely transportive and brilliant. If you are a fan of historical mysteries, this is hands-down one of the best series I’ve tried. Jonetta was right!
