About the Book:

Every writer has a story. Some are deadlier than others.

Aspiring author Graye Templeton will do anything to escape the horrific childhood crime that haunts her. After a life lived in shadows, she’s accepted a new job as protégé to Laura West, influential book blogger and wife of an acclaimed novelist. Laura’s connections could make Graye’s publishing dreams a reality. But there’s more to Laura than meets the eye.

Behind the veneer of a charmed life, Laura’s marriage is collapsing. Her once-lauded husband is descending into alcoholism and ruin and bringing Laura nearer to the edge.

As the two women form a bond that seems meant to be, long-buried secrets claw their way into the present, and the line between friendship and obsession begins to blur, forcing each to decide where her loyalties lie. Running from the past is a dangerous game, and the loser could end up dead.

My Thoughts:

The Shadow Writer has such a cool, inventive premise!

Graye Templeton is an aspiring author. She had a tough, abusive childhood and one that still colors her darkest days.

Graye has been hired as a right-hand to Laura West, wife to an acclaimed novelist and big-time book blogger. Working for Laura might take Graye to the next level in writing and give her the connections she needs.

However, Laura is not-so-simple.

Everything is falling apart for her. Her marriage is in a tailspin. Her husband has an alcohol problem. Laura is about to lose it all, and she’s losing herself emotionally. It’s also important to her that everything looks like it sparkles.

Laura and Graye become quite close, but they have dangerous secrets they are hiding. Friendship and obsession become one-in-the-same, and one of them could wind up hurt and not just emotionally.

I loved that there were multiple layers to the story. It really kept me guessing. There’s a darkness here, too, that I didn’t expect. There were some nice twists and turns that kept me on my toes, and overall, this was a terrifically engaging, suspenseful read!

I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
