Today I have a review of The Favorite Daughter by Kaira Rouda, now available from Harlequin Books/Graydon House. A big thank you to Harlequin for the invitation to review this crazy thrill ride!
My Thoughts:
Jane Harris, at first glance, is in an enviable position. She lives in a stunning home in Orange County and has a lovely family.
Even though things appear perfect, Jane’s daughter, Mary, passed away a year ago in a horrific accident. The cracks in Jane’s veneer are starting to show as she is grief-stricken (understandably so) and walking around in a haze.
But now a line is drawn in the sand, and Jane has to move forward. Her husband has planned a memorial for Mary and their other daughter, Betsy, graduates high school.
Now that Jane is back in the world again, she notices changes. Her husband is working all the time, and her daughter is disconnected.
And Mary? She was always Jane’s favorite. She followed all the rules and loved Jane.
Someone may know more about Mary and what happened. And someone will risk it all to hold their family together.
I want to just say: read this book. Jane is unforgettable. You will love to hate her, and you will love The Favorite Daughter. The end. There’s humor, tension, suspense, and overall, The Favorite Daughter is completely entertaining! I can’t say anything else for fear of ruining all the surprises!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Synopsis:
From the author of Best Day Ever, another gripping novel of psychological suspense set in an upscale Southern California community, for fans of B.A. Paris and Shari Lapena. The perfect home. The perfect family. The perfect lie.Jane Harris lives in a sparkling home in an oceanfront gated community in Orange County. It’s a place that seems too beautiful to be touched by sadness. But exactly one year ago, Jane’s oldest daughter, Mary, died in a tragic accident and Jane has been grief-stricken ever since. Lost in a haze of anti-depressants, she’s barely even left the house. Now that’s all about to change. It’s time for Jane to reclaim her life and her family. Jane’s husband, David, has planned a memorial service for Mary and three days later, their youngest daughter, Betsy, graduates high school. Yet as Jane reemerges into the world, it’s clear her family has changed without her. Her husband has been working long days–and nights–at the office. Her daughter seems distant, even secretive. And her beloved Mary was always such a good girl–dutiful and loving. But does someone know more about Mary, and about her last day, than they’ve revealed? The bonds between mothers and daughters, and husbands and wives should never be broken. But you never know how far someone will go to keep a family together…

Lovely review. On a different note, I am impressed with your photos. When I recently started out as a book blogger I attempted to take a few book photos. Lets just say… I think I will stick to reading books as opposed to take photos of them 😉
