Welcome to my stop on the You’ve Been Volunteered blog tour sponsored by Over the River Public Relations! Thank you to Rachel for the invitation! I’m also hosting an amazing giveaway on instagram soon, so please check it out!
My Thoughts:
Okay, friends. This book is too much fun! I had some big ‘ole belly laughs, which I needed.
Jen Dixon is the main character here. She’s a class mom, and this is the follow-up to the first book, aptly named Class Mom. If you’ve ever been a school volunteer, or worked in a school period, you’ll appreciate Jen’s frankness. She doesn’t hold back in her emails to the annoying PTA president and with other parents either.
This time she’s room mom for Max’s third grade class. But now Jen has more on her plate, including aging parents, adult daughters finding their way, and a sometimes neglectful husband.
Jen says what we all may have thought at one point or another, so her voice is innately refreshing and bold. It’s also distinctly relatable, as are Jen’s difficulties trying to manage it all at home and balance her volunteering.
Overall, You’ve Been Volunteered is an entertaining story, one that I’m sure will make you belly laugh, too, and it will also feel like a warm hug from someone who understands. I loved it!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
About the Book:
In the eagerly anticipated follow-up to Laurie Gelman’s “irreverent and hilarious” (The New York Post) hit Class Mom, brash, lovable Jen Dixon is back with a new class and her work cut out for her
If you’ve ever been a room parent or school volunteer, Jen Dixon is your hero. She says what every class mom is really thinking, whether in her notoriously frank emails or standup-worthy interactions with the micromanaging PTA President and the gamut of difficult parents. Luckily, she has the charm and wit to get away with it—most of the time. Jen is sassier than ever but dealing with a whole new set of challenges, in the world of parental politics and at home. She’s been roped into room-parenting yet again, for her son Max’s third grade class, but as her husband buries himself in work, her older daughters navigate adulthood, and Jen’s own aging parents start to need some parenting themselves, Jen gets pulled in more directions than any one mom, or superhero, can handle.
Refreshingly down-to-earth and brimming with warmth, Dixon’s next chapter will keep you turning the pages to find out what’s really going on under the veneer of polite parent interactions, and have you laughing along with her the whole way.
About Laurie Gelman:
Laurie Gelman was born and raised in the Great White North. She spent twenty-five years as a broadcaster in both Canada and the United States before trying her hand at writing novels. Laurie lives in New York City with her husband, Michael Gelman, and two teenage daughters. Class Mom is her first book.

Have you read You’ve Been Volunteered, or is it on your TBR? Have you read Class Mom? Happy Reading! ~ Jennifer THR
This does sound fun! I once volunteered at an elementary school, helping with the reading segments three days a week so this story has some appeal. Great review, Jennifer💜

Thanks, Jonetta! It’s just so smart and funny, I had a great time with it. I think you’d be able to relate to it, too, from your time volunteering and just in how well she captures human nature in general. ♥️

Oh my gosh, this sounds like fun! I spent 13 years volunteering at my kids’ schools in various capacities (and was PTA president for a total of three years!). This sounds like it would bring back lots of funny memories😁

Sounds like fun…definitely been there done that with 3 kids (thank god not anymore, perks of homeschooling!). Fantastic review! Have a great weekend, my friend! My stepmom fell off the deck on Tuesday and broke her hip and had to have surgery, so it’s been a wild week to return home from vacation! I’ve been over there helping them the past couple of days/nights, so I’m sorry if I’ve been MIA! And I broke my cell phone (don’t ask me how but I couldn’t even get it to take my fingerprint), but thank goodness my new one comes from Fed Ex today, yippee! Talk about a week-going back to the islands never sounded so good! I’ll catch up with you soon! xoxo ♥

Thanks, Jennifer! She’s 70 and healthy as can be-her 1st time in the hospital ever since she was 10 and had her tonsils out! Honestly all she said was good thing it happened after our cruise because she wouldn’t have wanted my Dad and youngest child to be disappointed (guess they were the ones most looking forward to seeing Mickey, lol). Shes’s such an saint. Yes! It’s been a doozy of a week back to reality. Thank you for all the good thoughts; they’re much appreciated by all of us. ❤

Ha! I haven’t volunteered in school but spent several years working in one and I must admit they’re the ideal place for accumulating funny stories – also sad and tragic ones, sometimes. The kids were never half as difficult to deal with as the parents, though… 😉

My boys are 23, 20, and 14. I’ve been volunteering since the oldest was in preschool. It never ends. I even volunteered for food tailgates for the college LAX team. I might be done when the youngest finishes high school. My fingers are crossed.
