Today I have a review of The Escape Room by Megan Goldin, publishing tomorrow via St. Martin’s Press.
My Thoughts:
Have you ever had an escape room experience? I never have, and I can safely say now I never will. 😂
Four friends, Sam, Sylvie, Jules, and Vincent work on Wall Street, with all its dollar signs. Their jobs are competitive and so are their intrinsic natures.
For team building, they have to participate in an escape room, a locked elevator escape room.
There’s a point where it ceases being a game.
The Escape Room is pure entertainment. Megan Goldin has nailed the page-turner, compulsively readable storytelling. It’s hard to keep things interesting when a story is mostly captured between the four walls of an elevator, but Goldin does that, too.
The characters aren’t really likable, and I don’t have much in common with Wall Street financiers, but none of that matters when you are as gripped as I was with the story. Megan Goldin, please tell us another story! I’ll be waiting!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
About the Book:
Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are ruthlessly ambitious high-flyers working in the lucrative world of Wall Street finance where deception and intimidation thrive. Getting rich is all that matters, and they’ll do anything to reach the top.
When they are ordered to participate in a corporate team-building exercise that requires them to escape from a locked elevator, dark secrets of their team begin to be laid bare.
The biggest mystery to solve in this lethal game: What happened to Sara Hall? Once a young shining star—”now gone but not forgotten”.
This is no longer a game.
They’re fighting for their lives.
Have you read The Escape Room, or is it on your TBR? Happy Reading! ~ Jennifer THR

I have read this one and I agree, it’s pure fun! The synopsis intrigued me when I first saw it. An escape room in an elevator? I don’t really care for elevators in the first place but to be locked into one is really terrifying to me! On that note, happy Monday!

It definitely had the tension and claustrophobia of it all, didn’t it, Kris? I have always been scared of elevators! I’m glad you enjoyed it, too, and I hope you had a great Monday!

I hate confined spaces so just the thought of an escape room being in an elevator is a major shiver factor for me. Don’t know if I would be brave enough to read this book and definitely no escape room for me.

I definitely understand, Marialyce. Both of my parents are claustrophobic so I tend to think about being trapped etc. sometimes. It was a gripping and compelling read.

I haven’t tried an escape room either, but I have been stuck in an elevator in the airport for quite a long time. The temperature was close to boiling and there was no escape! The story sounds gripping though.

That sounds terrifying! Did you miss your flight because of that? The story was definitely a captivating one!

I beat my own personal record in ‘airport-sprinting’ (which I practice on a regular basis 😉) and got to the gate just in time.

Thanks so much, favorite M! I took this picture last fall, but those same hibiscus are back to blooming, and I got one new one. That double light pink one just had its first bloom over the weekend! I’m glad you are enjoying yours too! 🌺

Great review! I had a hard time with this one only because I kept thinking that this was far fetched from a plot standpoint. Other than that, I think the author does a fantastic job of building suspense throughout the entire book as well as coming up with four characters that I can say that I loathe.

Thanks, Toya! I can see how you’d think it was a far fetched plot. I have seen or heard of so many outlandish things in real life that I tend to just roll with most plot premises if I’ve picked up the book. Oh my goodness, they were so unlikable and I had not a thing in common with them and it still managed to completely entertain me!

Ha! The very idea of an escape room gives me extreme clautrophobia so this book would terrify me! The things people do for fun…!! 😉

Both of my parents are claustrophobic, and I have seen them panic, so no escape room fo me, especially after this! It was a great read though!

Fantastic review! I LOVED this book! I also am scared of elevators so I wondered why I would put myself through this pain of reading this but it didn’t bother me at all. I really loved the chapters about Sara Hall! Loved your review!

I feel like this would terrify me even though I’ve never done an Escape the Room before. I appreciate you warning that the characters aren’t the most likable, too.
