Welcome to my stop on the The Photo Ark Vanishing blog tour sponsored by TLC Book Tours! Thanks to TLC for the invitation!
My Thoughts:
I can get straight to the point with this one. The Photo Ark Vanishing is another National Geographic book filled with stunning pictures; this time of animals nearing extinction or already extinct in the wild. Some of these animals I’d not heard of because of how rare or unusual they are, and there is beauty in every one.
Ever since I was a child, the thought of any animal becoming extinct has been heartbreaking to me, especially when the extinction is due to something humans have wrought on that particular species. This is a stunning tribute to these most beautiful, rare animals, and I’m so grateful to have it in my collection.
The author writes with love and care towards animals, and The Photo Ark Vanishing is definitely an indelible read.
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
About National Geographic The Photo Ark Vanishing: The World’s Most Vulnerable Animals
• Hardcover: 400 pages
• Publisher: National Geographic (September 10, 2019)
Celebrated National Geographic photojournalist Joel Sartore continues his Photo Ark quest, photographing species around the world that are escaping extinction thanks to human efforts.
Joel Sartore’s quest to photograph all the animal species under human care celebrates its 15th year with this glorious and heartwrenching collection of photographs. The animals featured in these pages are either destined for extinction or already extinct in the wild but still alive today, thanks to dedication of a heroic group committed to their continued survival. From the majestic Sumatran rhinoceros to the tiny Salt Creek tiger beetle, Sartore’s photographs bring us eye to eye with the kaleidoscopic diversity of shapes, colors, personalities, and attitudes of the animal world.
In these vivid pages, Sartore singles out the species most likely to disappear in the next decades, as well as some that have already been lost. Alongside these indelible images are the words of scientists and conservationists who are working to protect and restore populations of endangered species. With Sartore’s distinctive portrait photography, he invites us to look closer–and to care more.

We’re definitely picking this one up, Jen. I’m shocked and saddened often when I hear what’s happening to our wild animal populations. This sounds like a beautiful tribute, and being an animal loving family, this is a must have. ❤

This looks lovely! It’s so sad that we can’t seem to share the planet with other species – sometimes I think it’s be a better place if humanity became extinct… but no doubt we’d manage to leave the world uninhabitable if we do… where’s my medicinal chocolate? 😉

I need to get this one. I keep hearing of extinct animals and rare ones too like the black panther which was sighted in Kenya this year for the first time in 100 years. I ‘d definitely love to find out about more animals. Will definitely look out for this title. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer.

Thanks so much, Paula! Hemingway rarely poses for pictures, and he’s my wild kitty, so it was too funny he showed up for this one with another wild cat! ♥️
