Welcome to my stop on the blog tour celebrating the release of Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey! Thank you to Berkley Publishing for the invitation!
Make sure to check out my review for Waiting for Tom Hanks from last year. An adorable picture of Dickens is included!
About the Book:
What happens when your life is a rom-com…but you don’t even believe in true love?
Chloe Sanderson is an optimist, and not because her life is easy. As the sole caregiver for her father, who has early onset Alzheimer’s, she’s pretty much responsible for everything. She has no time—or interest—in getting swept up in some dazzling romance. Not like her best friend Annie, who literally wrote a rom-com that’s about to premiere in theaters across America…and happens to be inspired by Chloe and Nick Velez, Chloe’s cute but no-nonsense boss.
As the buzz for the movie grows, Chloe reads one too many listicles about why Nick is the perfect man, and now she can’t see him as anything but Reason #2: The Scruffy-Bearded Hunk Who’s Always There When You Need Him. But unlike the romance Annie has written for them, Chloe isn’t so sure her own story will end in a Happily Ever After.
My Thoughts:
I was so happy to be whisked away inside the pages of a fun rom com from by Kerry Winfrey. This one hit pretty close to home because Chloe is the sole caregiver for her elderly father who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She’s pretty busy with his care and has no time for a love life.
Her best friend, Annie, has written a rom com that’s about to release the theaters everywhere. The inspirations for Annie’s movie? None other than Chloe and her adorable boss, Nick. Will Chloe and Nick be united thanks to Annie?
Not Like the Movies is a fun romp of a read. It has a lot of heart, especially in the relationship between Chloe and her dad. Chloe and Nick are both characters I just loved, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting for what would happen between the two of them. Chloe had a tough time asking for help, which made her even more relatable for me.
Not Like the Movies is a beautiful, warmhearted read I connected to in expected and unexpected ways. Highly recommended for summer rom com fans!
I received a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

I got this book via NetGalley. I can’t wait to read this. I haven’t read first book, story about Annie’s love life but I guess that doesn’t affect here with Chloe ‘s story. Great review!

And we all wonder if the predictions in Annie’s movie come through 😉 I’m not much of a rom com reader, but it does sound charming. I also like the focus on the relationship between Chloe and her dad. Great review, Jennifer (I missed you reviews last week!)

Thanks so much, Stargazer, and aww! Thank you for missing me! I didn’t have anything scheduled- an odd thing to happen and enjoyed summer! It was such a sweet, uplifting read with touches of nostalgia. I loved those rom com movies in the 90s and it’s fun to revisit them this way.

It’s super nice to enjoy the summer and take a little break from blogging. I often have a week with no posts, but it’s more rare on your blog 🙂

It really is rare and so kind of you to notice. Stargazer, would you believe for my first year and a half of blogging, I posted every single day? It’s so hard for me to imagine that now. I think it burned me out a little. I’ve cut back to mostly two days a week now to give myself a little breather and now I’m finding it more enjoyable again. Thank you for the warm comments. I always look forward to reading what you’ve written. ❤️

I would definitely burn out, if I tried to post every day. 2 days a week sounds like a good balance. Since I never manage more than one post per week, you still outperform me quite a lot 😉 .

Thanks so much, Jonetta! ❤️ My dad is currently living in a facility, but I am the only one managing his care and well-being. Any time I talk to someone who gets it, it means the world, so thank you. ❤️
