Welcome to my stop on the Complete Birds of North America blog tour sponsored by TLC Book Tours! Thanks to TLC for the invitation!
About the Book:
This desk reference is the most up-to-date and comprehensive source of knowledge on North American bird identification, distribution, behavior, habitat, and conservation concerns available today.
More an encyclopedia than a field guide, National Geographic’s Complete Birds is a browsable treasure trove of facts. This comprehensive volume profiles every bird observable in the continental United States and Canada, featuring species accounts with details that include calls and songs, breeding behaviors, molting patterns, and the vast extent of their polar and neotropical migrations. The precision maps, illuminating photographs, and more than 4,000 exquisite pieces of annotated art make this the biggest and best bird book ever. This third edition, thoroughly updated, includes:
- Information on more than 1,000 species and subspecies
- Overviews of every family
- Organization reflecting current taxonomy
- 850 range maps, more than half updated since the last edition
- Sidebars on identification challenges such as distinguishing between Bay-breasted and Blackpoll Warblers in fall or separating the various species of white egrets
These 752 pages add up to a lifetime of learning for all devoted birders, from those just beginning birders to those who have been building their life lists for decades.Bird lovers will appreciate many other titles from National Geographic, including:
- Field Guide to the Birds of North America
- Backyard Guide to the Birds of North America
- How to Know the Birds
- Birds of the Photo Ark
My Thoughts:
Anyone else a birdwatcher? It’s a tradition, though not a formal one, passed down to me by my grandparents and great aunts. My dad also knows a wealth of information about birds, and when I was in college, a required biology course included that we recognize all local birds by their songs. I’ll never forget it.
So to say that I was thrilled to receive a copy of this National Geographic complete book of birds would be an understatement. I will continue flipping through these beautifully photographed pages learning more about North America’s birds.
I received a gifted copy.
Cover love. I love the goldfinch and hummingbird. Great blog tour and review, Jenni! Happy Wednesday! 🦩🦢🕊🪶🦚🦅❤️📚

What a beautiful book! We all love birds in our family, and I am so envious of your college class about bird song, that is so cool😁

I am not a proper birdwatcher but I do love looking out for ones that come around where we live. Quite an interesting collection of regular visitors–tailor birds, rose ringed parakeets, crows, jungle baubles, bulbuls, mayans, robins, treepies and sparrows among them. Sparrows had disappeared for a bit but am glad they’re back again

Oh, Maliki, I would love to see your local birds. How wonderful the sparrows came back too. I’m going to look some of these up!

Being about an hour and a half’s drive from a bird sanctuary, we also get some interesting visitors in addition to the birds we see regularly. I was thrilled with the Sparrows coming back as well.

I am not really a birdwatcher. I love to watch all the beautiful birds, but unless I have someone to guide me, I have little idea about which species I am watching. It looks like a wonderful book, I am envious of all the National Geographic books you receive!

Bird watching sounds like such a beautiful hobby. I appreciate beautiful birds when I see them but I’m not a bird watcher. Still curious about this book. Its so nice how bird watching was passed down in your family.
