First Line Fridays is a feature hosted by Hoarding Books.
TGIF, everyone! Another week almost in the books!
Today my first lines are from a book I am currently reading:
If anyone told me I could bring down the president, and the Pure Movement, and that incompetent little BLEEP Morgan LeBron in a week’s time, I wouldn’t believe them. But I wouldn’t argue. I wouldn’t say a thing.
I’ve become a woman of few words.
I have been excited about reading Vox for a while! This is a different genre for me, and so far, I am completely enthralled with this book.
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Set in an America where half the population has been silenced, VOX is the harrowing, unforgettable story of what one woman will do to protect herself and her daughter.
On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial–this can’t happen here. Not in America. Not to her.
This is just the beginning.
Soon women can no longer hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke sixteen thousand words a day, but now women only have one hundred to make themselves heard.
But this is not the end.
For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.
Please share with me the first line(s) of the book you are currently reading! I would love to read it! Have you read Vox, or do you plan to? Happy Friday reading! ~ Jennifer THR
Happy Friday!
My first line is: We were staying at David’s apartment in Paris the night the woman fell onto the Metro tracks. I am enjoying this read. ❤️🌺
I have not read Vox.

Happy Friday, Jennifer! This is a really intriguing book. I saw it on Edelweiss but since it’s so close to its release date and I still have a handful of books up for review, I didn’t request for it. I’m excited to read what you think about it.
I shared the first line of the 8th book from the In Death series, Conspiracy in Death. But here, I’ll share with you the first line of one of the books I’m currently reading. This one is from Kit Frick’s “See All the Stars.”
JUNE, SOPHOMORE SUMMER
(THEN)
We went to the party because Ret insisted. I was perfectly happy right where we were: lying on our backs in Jenni’s sprawling front yard, building our best-ever summer playlist, telling time by the dandelion clocks until the sky was a white haze of down. We were idle and airy. We had perfected the summer loaf.
Hope you enjoyed that. Happy weekend! 😀

It’s very summer. 😀 Happy weekend, Jennifer! (PS. I really am waiting to see what you think about Vox. It’s kind of similar to The Handmaid’s Tale from how the blurb made it sound.)

Happy Friday! My first line is from Other People’s Children by Ellen Fannon (which I have laughed so hard through the little bit I started reading): Prologue:
“Why are children so childish?” Robin groused to herself as she sat valiantly attempting to put two coherent thoughts together for her newspaper column that was due tomorrow.

That does sound fun! I love to laugh when I read, too! Thank you for sharing with me, and happy Friday!

Happy Friday!😎
My first lines come from Carolina Mercy by Regina Rudd Merrick…..
Lucy Dixon wanted it to be a bad dream, but it wasn’t. Auto pilot. It was the only way she was getting through this. Daddy was dead.
Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚💖

This sounds super interesting . I’m currently on a mini book ban because I’ve been buying books faster than I can read them, but will definitely need to check this out!

I was just working on a book haul post and thinking things are pretty out-of-hand with books here, too, LP! Lol This book has a great trailer- I should have linked it to the post, but here it is: http://christinadalcher.com. It’s really thought-provoking and I’m enjoying it! When I was invited to read it, I jumped at the chance because, while it’s not my typical kind of read, it is ever so timely. I will definitely keep you posted, FF! 😊

TGIF! On my blog, I’m featuring The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. “Carolyn, blood-drenched and barefoot, walked alone down the two-lane stretch of blacktop that the Americans called Highway 78.” It’s a new one I picked up and it sound intriguing! Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday! I’m sharing from the third Lady Alkmene Callender Cosy Mystery on my blog today. Here are the first lines from the fourth, Fatal Masquerade by Vivian Conroy:
“Can’t this thing go any faster?” Denise Hargrove snapped at the driver. During the drive she’d consulted her watch over and over again, exuding a nervous energy Lady Alkmene Callender found hard to place.

A hundred words a day! I’d use all mine up ordering my kids to brush their teeth, leave their siblings alone, and chew with their mouths closed. There wouldn’t even be any left to answer their million-a-day questions!

I know, right?! And the main character is a mom with three kids. It’s a thought-provoking read and with a “real” feeling.
