Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a meme hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings to spotlight upcoming releases we are excited about that we have yet to read.
The book I’m waiting on this week is…
When I was invited to a blog tour for Cherokee America, I jumped at the chance. I’ve read so many wonderful things about Maud’s Line from Margaret Verble, and it’s waiting on my shelf for me to read it, too. I’m sure this one will be difficult at times, but I noticed the synopsis mentioned touches of humor, so that will add a nice balance. I simply cannot wait to dig in! Stay tuned for my blog tour stop in February!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
From the author of the Pulitzer Prize finalist Maud’s Line, an epic novel that follows a web of complex family alliances and culture clashes in the Cherokee Nation during the aftermath of the Civil War, and the unforgettable woman at its center.
It’s the early spring of 1875 in the Cherokee Nation West. A baby, a black hired hand, a bay horse, a gun, a gold stash, and a preacher have all gone missing. Cherokee America Singer, known as “Check,” a wealthy farmer, mother of five boys, and soon-to-be widow, is not amused.
In this epic of the American frontier, several plots intertwine around the heroic and resolute Check: her son is caught in a compromising position that results in murder; a neighbor disappears; another man is killed. The tension mounts and the violence escalates as Check’s mixed race family, friends, and neighbors come together to protect their community–and painfully expel one of their own.
Cherokee America vividly, and often with humor, explores the bonds–of blood and place, of buried histories and half-told tales, of past grief and present injury–that connect a colorful, eclectic cast of characters, anchored by the clever, determined, and unforgettable Check.
Have you read Cherokee America, or is it on your shelf? Please share your link to Can’t Wait/Waiting on Wednesdays/WWW, so I can check yours out! Happy Reading! ~ Jennifer THR

This one sounds so good. I’ll have to add it! My maternal grandfather’s side of the family has Cherokee in them, so I’ve always been interested in their story. Have you seen Unto These Hills at the Cherokee reservation? I’m blown away every time I see it. ❤

I am super excited about this read, Steph! No, I am so sad to say I have not. I have got to get over that way, gamble a little and see it! Maybe this summer and thank you for the reminder!

I bet you are since it’s a historical and cultural read! Oh, you really do need to go! I was about 10 the 1st time I went and was just mesmerized. Now it’s enthralling but it still makes me an emotional mess every time. That is one period in history that I just cannot understand but again, there are too many I can’t… 😦 You’re welcome! I hope you get a chance to go!

Hi there! I’ll be part of the blog tour too, and I too can’t wait to read it.
I read Maud’s Line when it came out (was part of the blog tour too, that’s how I discovered Margaret’s work) and I LOVED it! I’m sure this new book will be just as good.
Do read Maud’s Line, is diferent and immersive.
