Today I have a review of Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey, available from Berkley on June 11, 2019!
Photo comment: Dickens decided he needed his own tray, and I decided to work with him. 😂
My Thoughts:
Annie is twenty-seven years old and loves a romantic comedy. These movies are especially important to her for their nostalgia as she watched them with her late mother before she passed away.
Annie’s dating expectations have been influenced by these movies. She’s literally waiting for her own Tom Hanks to send her an email or arrive at her front door.
Annie meets her perfect match, but she may have to figure out how to be his perfect match, too, with all the defenses she’s built up.
I loved the wave of rom com movies that came out in the 90s! So much fun and so endearing! Waiting for Tom Hanks could fit right in among those movies. It’s charming, sweet, and oodles of fun. I also get the feeling there may be a second book in the works based on the amazing supporting key players here.
Overall, this was a quick, warmhearted, charming read, perfect for summer, and an especially good match for rom com fans!
I received a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Synopsis:
Can a romcom-obssessed romantic finally experience the meet-cute she always dreamed of or will reality never compare to fiction, in this charming debut adult novel from Kerry Winfrey.
Annie is twenty-seven years old, single, and obsessed with romantic comedies (she and her mother watched them religiously, before her mom died). Her dating life is limited by the expectations she’s formed from these movies. She is not as open to new experiences as she might be, because she’s waiting for her Tom Hanks–i.e., a guy she’ll find in the perfect, meet-cute romantic comedy way. When Annie does finally meet her perfect match, it’s not quite in the way she expected, and she’s forced to reckon with the walls she’s built around herself over the years.

This book sounds so cute! Movies like You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle seems so quaint for the times we live in now, but they’re such a great escape and this book sounds like it’s so much fun too! Love this picture, Jennifer, especially that precious kitten!

I saw this title for the first time a few days ago and hoped the story would be as whimsical as it sounds. I’m thrilled to see your excellent review, Jennifer, as I wanted confirmation before I considered adding or pursuing💜 Good romantic comedies are always welcome on my shelf.

This was such a great romcom! I loved it too. It made me realize I’ve not watched most of those movies she is obsessed about…where have I been?? I need to do a 90s romcom movie marathon! I did see that this was book 1 in the series, so I’m excited for book 2! Love your review!

Did you ever see a movie at the Varsity? I saw Jerry Maguire there (not a rom com!), Message in a Bottle, and a couple more, one with John Cusack that may have been a rom com’ish that I’m blanking on! … Such an experience! People laughed and cheered and I’ll never forget it! You definitely need to do a marathon! Thanks so much! I’m ready for the next one too! I look forward to your full review! ♥️

I did! I think that is where I saw Message in a Bottle too and I know a few others! It’s got such a great vibe! I’m going to admit that I have never seen Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, While You Were Sleeping, or You’ve Got Mail-all the ones she mentioned, LOL! Isn’t that awful?? Honestly, besides Forrest Gump, The Da Vinci Code, The Green Mile, and Apollo 13, I don’t think I have seen any other Tom Hanks movies (unless Toy Story 1,2, and 3 counts?). Now if it had Hugh Grant and/or Julia Roberts in it, and was a rom-com, I have seen it and own it, so those are covered! You’re right, I need to do a marathon of those others, haha. You’re welcome. Me too. Thanks! It will be up on Friday! 🙂 ♥

Aww, that’s a bummer! I have to say… Notting Hill is a favorite of mine and traveling to England around the same time cinched it. I got to revisit my trip every time I watched that one over and over. And Hope Floats! Oh, how I loved Hope Floats! ♥️

Honestly, I can’t stand Meg Ryan (or Billy Crystal) so I never wanted to see any of her films…I’ve seen her in one thing, maybe. I do love Sandra Bullock though, so I need to watch While You Were Sleeping…I’ve seen bits and pieces while it’s been on TV, but never sat down and watched it. Notting Hill is one of my favorites! It definitely reminds me of visiting England too. I guess I’m more a 2000s romcom girl, lol…13 Going on 30, NJSweet Home Alabama, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (anything with Mathew McConaughey), PS, I Love You, and Bridget Jones Diary are my favorites! Gosh, I love Hope Floats! I’ve watched it so many times…To Make You Feel My Love is mine and my husband’s song. ❤

I had a boyfriend I shared that song with, but we are not currently married! 😂 I wonder how many of us had/have that song? I loved those movies too! Ahhh! When going to the movies was such a regular event!

Dickens in a tray, yeah because obviously the blankie wasn’t comfy enough 😂 Cats are weird creatures! I don’t usually do romcom but this sounds really cute. If I happen to come across it I might just snap it up 😊

It was super cute, Kelly! Just like my Dickens! 😂 That tray looks really comfortable, doesn’t it! He’s done it since, too. It’s not always easy to photograph two trays in one frame! 😂 ♥️
