Shelfie by Shelfie is a fun book tag created by Beth at Bibliobeth. The idea behind the tag is to share a picture of any shelf of books you would like and answer ten questions about those particular books. Check out Beth’s recent Shelfie by Shelfie!
For this shelfie, we are just looking at these two steps, which is actually way too many books to include, but I am going for it! 😂 A few people have asked to see the books currently stacked on my stairs because all my shelves are full, and there is nowhere else to put another bookshelf in this house! I haven’t forgotten about the panoramic pic, Kathy! 💗 I need some time to give some semblance of order to the stairs. 😬
A couple more pics for clarity (I had to move them around so you can see them all):
And here are the questions!:
1.) Is there any reason for this shelf being organised the way it is or is it purely random?
You can probably see a large number of these are Book of the Month (BOTM) books. Unread BOTM books at that. I have more elsewhere- future shelfie material. Some of these are Book Outlet purchases and others are books I won in a mega-giveaway by Jenny O’Regan on Instagram! Give her a follow if you haven’t already. She’s amazing!
2.) Tell us a story about one of the books on this shelf that is special to you i.e. how you got it/ a memory associated with it etc.
On Agate Hill by Lee Smith is a favorite book of mine. I have another copy, somewhere, and I bought a second for lending purposes and because I cannot currently find the first. I haven’t looked very hard, though. 😂
3.) Which book from this shelf would you ditch if you were forced to and why?
I have too many good ones and unread ones and … good ones to let any go this week. Is that cheating?!
4.) Which book from this shelf would you save in an emergency and why?
On Agate Hill or The Heart’s Invisible Furies, which the latter I have not read yet! I know!
5.) Which book has been on this shelf for the longest time?
I’m really not sure this time. Many of these were acquired around the same time, which is the time… I ran out of bookshelf space.
6.) Which book is the newest addition to this shelf?
The newest additions would be three BOTM selections from a previous month: The Dinner List, Spinning Silver, and Sweet Little Lies.
7.) Which book from this shelf are you most excited to read (or re-read if this is a favourites shelf?
All.of.them. I’ve got some goodies here! I would re-read On Agate Hill, and I don’t re-read often. So many of the BOTM selections are calling to me, especially the John Boyne. I have an ARC of his newest I will be reading soon. Also, Circe!
8.) If there is an object on this shelf apart from books, tell us the story behind it.
No objects, but probably some dust and cat hair! 😂 🐱
9.) What does this shelf tell us about you as a reader?
🧐😂🤣 The obvious: I’m still out of shelf space! And it highlights my eclectic readership. I think just about every big genre is represented here.
10.) Choose other bloggers to tag or choose a free question you make up yourself.
Is anyone else out of book space? If not, how do you keep your book stash manageable? Is that even a thing? 😊
I won’t tag anyone, but Shelfie by Shelfie is so much fun to do, and Beth is one of the most supportive bloggers around, so please check out her page Bibliobeth , and also my friend, Paula’s, First Shelfie because she has a thoughtful organizational method I could learn from!
Happy Saturday, everyone, and happy reading! Jennifer THR
Haha don’t I know it too well, when you run out of space for your books. I’m currently in the same dilemma and some of my newest books now share shelf space with my shoes lol.

😂 Thanks for helping me feel better, Bibi! ♥️ Did you see Circe in this stack? It made me think of you! Also, I’m reading a book about Achilles right now- The Silence of the Girls! I hope to finish it this weekend and have it reviewed soon. Happy weekend! Xoxo

I JUST finished that one a few weeks ago. Got it through Netgalley, and also received a free and signed physical copy by the author 🙂 really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that one 😀

I can’t wait to read your thoughts on it too! That’s so exciting about the signed copy! ♥️

Thanks, Lindsay! Not the safest thing in the world, but somehow the books started on the bottom stair and found their way up and up! 💕 ♥️

Omg!! Double rows on the stairs?? Time to move or maybe add on a room just for your books? Maybe a whole new floor? Wow!! I see so many of your books I want too! Haha Happy Saturday my friend. Hopefully Hurricane Florence makes a U turn and starts away from NC!😲💕😊

I do have a room pretty much just for books! It’s full! I need to take time to go through the ones I’ve read and donate, donate, donate. I’m so happy you see some good ones! Happy Saturday to you, too, Sus! And thank you- I’m definitely keeping an eye on this storm! ♥️ xoxo

I would probably end up having an accident if I kept books on the stairs – I’d be too busy spotting things I’d forgotten about instead of concentrating on where the steps were. Great post though.

Thanks, Lynn! It’s definitely not the safest thing, but somehow we’ve all adapted to the books on the stairs, even the cats! 😊

I think your stair shelves are quite ingenious Jennifer! You’ve got to read Unsub, by Meg Gardiner! I loved that and the sequel Into the Black Nowhere!☺️

Thank you, Kim! ♥️ Yes, I definitely need to get to it with Unsub, don’t I? Great to know that you loved it and the sequel too! I walk past it every day- so hopefully I’ll remember to pick it up now!

Your home looks like a bookstore! 💗I was going to say library… but these books look practically new! I would be in heaven!

Thanks, Lana! I’m so embarrassed- because many of them are unread, that’s why they look so shiny and new. I will say I have slowed down a bunch on buying since the spring. I still get my BOTM picks, but I haven’t bought nearly as many physical books as I used to (because of space!). ♥️ I’ll have to have some shelves in my camper one day! 😂

Yes! That’s a must!! 😂💗 I have one shelf for books.. but it’s little. Maybe I should share that sometime.. 😊

I love these shelf stairs so much. 😂 And wow, BOTM has the best selections! Oh, how I wish they would ship to Canada. And I adored Song of Achilles so much and definitely still need to read through Circe–Miller’s writing is just so swoon-worthy! And I spy Down Among Sticks and Bones! I quite loved the first one in the series and should really catch up before the fourth one drops.
I’ll be eagerly waiting for that panoramic pic, Jennifer. 😉

I wish you could get BOTM in Canada, too, Kathy! I can’t wait for Circe, and I’m pretty sure I have Song of Achilles on my Kindle. I need to make sure I have the first of that series (Down Among Sticks). We have a hurricane on the way, so my book straightening paused, but I will get it done, Kathy. I won’t let you down! 😉 ♥️

Oh my gosh, right, the hurricane! Hope you (and your books :)) are staying safe and dry! ❤

Haha – your pictures always make me feel better about the piles of books all round my own house! Do you ever get rid of books to charity shops etc., or do you keep them all?

I’ve tried to help you feel better about your TBR with my words, but that didn’t help, so now I have to bring out the pics! 🤣 I do lots of donations, but most of what I’ve shown thus far are unread!

That’s great to know, Vicky! I can’t wait to read it! And, yes, absolutely- having too many BOTM books is a wonderful problem!

This is such a fun tag, I always love taking a peek at other people’s shelves and seeing the way they arrange their books. Maybe you should give away the BOTM books you aren’t going to read to us for free! That’s definitely a great way to reduce the amount of books and add more shelf space :”)

♥️ Thank you, Ayunda! My plan is to read them all, so I better get busy, right?! 😊

Love it Jennifer!! 💕 As you probably know from a recent IG post I now have a bookcart which is ridiculous since I have an entire room dedicated to my books. My bookshelves have doors on the bottom where I could stash more books but I like to see all of them, you know?! 😂 I’d better get a handle on this book thing before my husband has me committed. 😌

You’d better get a handle on your books before you have them on the stairs like me, Laurie?! 😂 Did you see my stair shelfie pics? I am way full on books! I’m so happy you got a cart, and your shelves are gorgeous!
