TGIF, everyone! First Line Fridays is a fun way to share from books on your TBR.
Today my first line is from a book I am currently reading:
Presentation day. Finally, Kick thought as soon as she opened her eyes that morning. This is it, she kept thinking, her heart pounding. This is it.
I have been enthralled with the Kennedys my entire life. Several months ago, I listened to Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter. While listening to that nonfiction book, when Kick was mentioned, I wondered why I didn’t know more about her. Shortly thereafter, I found out this book was being published. I’ll be participating in a blog tour for it next week and hosting a giveaway, so please stay tuned for my review!
Synopsis from Goodreads:
A captivating novel following the exploits of Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, the forgotten and rebellious daughter of one of America’s greatest political dynasties.
London, 1938. The effervescent “It girl” of London society since her father was named the ambassador, Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy moves in rarified circles, rubbing satin-covered elbows with some of the 20th century’s most powerful figures. Eager to escape the watchful eye of her strict mother, Rose, the antics of her older brothers, Jack and Joe, and the erratic behavior of her sister Rosemary, Kick is ready to strike out on her own and is soon swept off her feet by Billy Hartington, the future Duke of Devonshire. But their love is forbidden, as Kick’s devout Catholic family and Billy’s staunchly Protestant one would never approve their match. When war breaks like a tidal wave across her world, Billy is ripped from her arms as the Kennedys are forced to return to the States. Kick gets work as a journalist and joins the Red Cross to get back to England, where she will have to decide where her true loyalties lie–with family or with love . . .
Please share with me the first line(s) of the book you are currently reading! I would love to read it! Have you read The Kennedy Debutante, or do you plan to? Happy Friday reading! ~ Jennifer THR
Looking forward to see your review about this. I got a NetGalley widget for this book but I haven’t decided yet if I should get it. XD

On my radar as well! First line of Warlight, my current library read, by Michael Ondaatje….”In 1945 our parents went away and left us in the care of two men who may have been criminals.”

This one is historical fiction, Kim, so it’s based on fact, but has some embellishments to make it a really good story. Do you like that genre? I hope you have a lovely weekend, my friend! ♥️

Happy Friday!😊
My first lines come from Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane by JoAnn Ross…..
Life, as Aiden Mannion knew firsthand, could be dangerous. Anything could happen. You could be hit by a taxi while sightseeing in Times Square. Run headfirst into a tree while shushing down a diamond run pretending you were Bode Miller.
Have a great weekend and Happy Fall!💕

She sounds like she had quite a life – enjoy!
Mine’s a bit odd this week..
‘A tolerably hard nut to crack, of course,’ said the self-possessed young man with the very agreeable smile – an accomplishment which he did not trouble to exercise on his associate in this case, since they knew one another pretty well and were strictly talking business; ‘or you wouldn’t be so dead keen about me, Joolby.’
It’s from The Bravo of London by Ernest Bramah – vintage crime – and I’m not sure quite what I think of it so far…

That one didn’t go down smoothly for the first bit. I look forward to your thoughts! I love your vintage crime reviews. The main “character” in this book (a real person, actually), had a short life. I definitely wasn’t drawn to the “deb” parts but more the story of the Kennedy family. You may have heard this before, but since we don’t have royalty over here, sometimes the Kennedys are referred to as our royalty. There is a huge love and fascination for this family (and with great reason- so many wonderful accomplishments towards human rights). 😊

The Kennedys are such an interesting (and tragic) family, a few years ago I did an essay on the Chappaquiddick incident and I haven’t managed to forget about it since. I hear they’re making a movie.

Yes, so much fascination and intrigue with this family while also so much tragedy. I’ll have to check out the movie. Thanks for letting me know, Carolina.

Ooh this sounds fascinating! I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of her before!
Mine’s from a book called Nightingale!
“There was a dead girl in the bed next to June’s.
The corpse was giggling uncontrollably into her pillow, muffling the sound, making it much quieter than the shrieks and cackles coming from behind the closed door leading to the hallway, a wicked harmony of pain and grief and fear.”
Which…doesn’t sound all that pleasant but it definitely caught my attention! 😀

She had a short life, Kathy, and she doesn’t seem to be as talked about as the other Kennedys. I’m rubbing my hands together to read your first line- I look forward to it every week! And now I read it, and eek! 😂 It would definitely have gotten my attention, too! I can’t wait to find out more in your review! ♥️ Happy Saturday! Xoxo
